Terms of Use

These terms apply whenever you use Gary Residents Directory. By continuing to use the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, stop using the service.

1. Nature of the Service

Gary Residents Directory is a privately run reference resource. It describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and historical collections concerning Gary, Lake County, and Indiana. The service does not host government records and is not connected with any agency, court, library, or records custodian.

2. Acceptable Use Rules

Use the service and linked information only for lawful purposes. Prohibited conduct includes:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make FCRA-regulated decisions (credit, employment, tenant, insurance)
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Interfere with the site's operation or security

3. No Consumer Reports

Gary Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. ยง 1681 et seq. Neither its content nor results supplied by a linked search provider constitute a consumer report. They may not be used to determine eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose regulated by the FCRA.

4. Outside Links and Services

Lake County and Indiana portals, library or archive sites, and third-party services such as sponsored search tools set their own terms and privacy practices. We do not control their content, uptime, prices, or handling of data.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is offered "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We make no promise that content is accurate, complete, or current, or that an outside portal will remain available or provide a correct result. Verify important information with the Gary, Lake County, or Indiana custodian that holds the source record.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages connected with use of the service or a linked resource. This limit includes harm arising from reliance on records found through those resources.

7. Your Duty to Indemnify

You agree to indemnify and hold the service's operators harmless from claims or demands, including reasonable attorneys' fees, caused by your misuse of the service or breach of these terms.

8. Copyright and Site Content

Copyright protects the original writing, design, logo, and layout. You may link to a page or quote a short excerpt with attribution. Republishing entire pages or systematically copying the service's content is prohibited.

9. Revisions to These Terms

We may revise these terms by publishing an updated version here. Use after a revision constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

10. Restricting Access

We may block or limit access, without notice and at our discretion, when a user abuses the service or violates these terms.

11. Indiana Governing Law

Indiana law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Access to records held by public agencies is governed in relevant part by the Indiana Access to Public Records Act, Indiana Code 5-14-3. APRA applies to the public custodian, not to this private reference service, and it does not require an agency to create a new record or disclose information made confidential by law. The Indiana Consumer Data Bill of Rights, Indiana Code 24-15, is effective and enforced beginning January 1, 2026, subject to its coverage thresholds and exemptions.

12. Severability

If a court finds one provision unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect.
